The Economics Department has its own email server, which runs Microsoft Exchange email server software. Email can be accessed via the Outlook Client, mobile devices, or via the web by linking to http://econ.umd.edu/owa. All faculty, staff, and graduate students are assigned an email account upon joining the Department by the Windows/Novell network administrator.

The official domain name for the Economics Department server is @econ.umd.edu.

The Exchange email server can be accessed from any computer anywhere via one of the above described methods, given the computer is connected to the Internet. In addition to email, Exchange also provides the functionality of a personal information manager, including calendar functionality.
