Department Chair, Professor Andrew Sweeting, gave testimony to the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, during a November 29 hearing on the “Competitive Impact of the proposed Kroger-Albertsons Transaction”.  Professor Sweeting, who has published a number of papers on antitrust in leading economics journals and served as Director of the Bureau of Economics at the Federal Trade Commission in 2020, discussed how learning from prior mergers and approaches used in other countries could help to guide the FTC when it is making an enforcement decision in this case.

A recording of the hearing is available here: https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/meetings/examining-the-competitive-impact-of-the-proposed-kroger-albertsons-transaction.
